The Youth and Sports Ministry has formed a task force to study issues relating to sexual and psychological harassment of athletes involved in high-performance sports programmes.
Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said the task force will be headed by Marina Chin, a famed former athlete who was the SEA Games 2017 chef de mission for Malaysia and National Sports Council board member.
"She will study all aspects regarding this issue, while identifying short and long-term guidelines to handling complaints, whistleblower policies, athlete welfare and other related issues," he said.
This follows the arrest of a diving coach who was accused of raping a member of the national diving team.
Khairy said the was saddened by the incident and hoped for a fair investigation.
"I urge everyone to respect the privacy of the victim and all of our national divers," he said in a statement today.
According to The Star, the alleged rape took place on Sept 26 at the National Sports Complex in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur.
Other news reports claimed that the suspect was a 35-year-old man from China.- Mkini
