Mahathir’s Memorable Quotes

How many of you can remember Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s memorable quotes through the ages? Some of these quotes are downright outrageous that probably Mahathir himself cringes whenever he reads what he once said. Anyway, have fun remembering what the man who was once Malaysia’s Prime Minister for 22 years said. It makes one wonder how he managed to stay as Prime Minister for so long.

Malaysia needs the ISA (Internal Security Act). The ISA is a preventive law. We detain people as they are still thinking of committing a crime and even before they commit a crime. It is no use trying to arrest people after they have committed a crime because by then they will already be very far away and we cannot catch them. That is why KL’s Twin Towers is still standing while New York’s Twin Towers has been brought down. Because Malaysia has the ISA and the US does not. (The US listened to Mahathir and soon after that introduced the Patriot Act).

Malays have in inferiority complex. Even senior Malay civil servants who drive a Volvo will call a Chinese man on a bicycle selling old bottles ‘towkay’. (In the old days we had Chinese ‘junk dealers’ going from house-to-house on their bicycles collecting bottles, old newspapers, and so on. It is said Low Yat, who built Federal Hotel, the first ‘5-star’ hotel in pre-Merdeka Malaya, started life that way and eventually became a millionaire).

Malaysia does not need PAS. Malaysia is already an Islamic country. (Later Mahathir announced that Malaysia is a fundamentalist Islamic county).

Why do Muslims want to keep beards? In the old days there were no Gillette shaving blades and that was why Prophet Muhammad kept a beard. (Actually long before the Prophet was born Muslims shaved their heads during the Haj ritual so there must have been shaving blades although not the Gillette brand).

We brought Anwar Ibrahim into Umno so that he will not join PAS. If he joined PAS he would create a lot of problems for us. We thought once he joins Umno we can control him. But then he plotted to oust me so we had to get rid of him. (Before that Mahathir said they had to get rid of Anwar because he is a homosexual).

Many accusations have been made against me but nothing has ever been proven.

Najib must show proof he did not steal 1MDB’s money.

Even the opposition does the same thing. (When asked by the reporters on 29th November 1999 about the 2,000 phantom voters discovered in his constituency).

The Rulers sold out the country by agreeing to the Malayan Union. It was Umno that saved the country by forcing the British to abandon the Malayan Union and replace it with the Federation of Malaya.

The British tipu (tricked) the Rulers into signing the Malayan Union.

Malaysia was colonised because the Malays were divided. If the Malays become divided again Malaysia will lose its independence and its sovereignty and others will come in and occupy the country.

The Malays are angry because you give the Chinese too much face. That is why they came out to riot on 13th May 1969. (Mahathir’s ‘open letter’ to Tunku Abdul Rahman, Malaysia’s first Prime Minister, blaming him for ‘May 13’).

Najib gives the Chinese too much face. Umno’s support base is the Malays, but Najib does not look after the Malays and wastes all his time with the Chinese. (Mahathir’s criticism of Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak after the 2013 general election).

Why does Pak Lah (Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi) listen to Singapore? If Singapore does not want to demolish the causeway and replace it with a bridge then we can build half a bridge (the Crooked Bridge) on our side of the causeway. We do not need to touch Singapore’s side of the causeway.

Why does Najib listen to Singapore (regarding the Crooked Bridge)? What has Singapore got on him? Singapore must have something on him if he listens to them. How can Singapore tell us what to do in our own territory?

Why is the west angry that we cut down our trees (regarding over-logging in Sarawak and the huge forest lost to the Bakun Dam)? They have already cut down all their trees and they have no forest left. So they want us to preserve our forest for their sake. If they do not want us to cut down our trees then compensate us. We need to cut down our trees because we need the income.

The PAS government cannot even supply clean water to its people. The water in Kelantan is so dirty it is like tea coming out from the pipes. The cholera rate in Kelantan is the highest in the country and many people die every year. They want the federal government to give them RM600 million to upgrade their water supply. We might as well use that money for something better. If they want the RM600 million then vote for Umno in the next general election.

The Malays have sacrificed a lot. We agreed to give the Chinese and Indians citizenship and our majority dropped from 95% to only about 50%.

Kit Siang is a racist.

Anwar Ibrahim is a sodomist.

The Sultan of Kelantan is a smuggler.
