Selangor PAS commissioner Sallehen Mukhyi has brushed off allegations that he had hijacked a state government initiative to help the poor with their medical bills.
Sallehen said his image and the PAS logo was placed on envelopes for Selangor's Peduli Sihat programme in his capacity as the Sabak assemblyperson.
"What is wrong with me as the assemblyperson doing this to deliver (aid) to the people? We've done this before.
"Why only make an issue out of this now?" Sallehen said when contacted by Malaysiakini today.
Wanita PKR leadership council member Juwairiya Zulkifli yesterday shared a photo of Sallehen's Peduli Kasih envelopes on Facebook, chastising the PAS leader for taking credit for the Selangor government's efforts.
The Peduli Sihat programme gives Selangor families earning less than RM3,000 a month an annual allocation of RM500 to cover their medical expenses.
Sallehen said the envelopes bearing his image made it clear that Peduli Sihat was a state initiative.
"We did not write that this is a PAS programme. This practice has been done by other assemblypersons before this," he added.
PAS currently has a complicated relationship with the Selangor government.
As a member of Pakatan Rakyat, PAS, together with PKR and DAP, had helped keep the federal opposition in power in Selangor during the 2013 general election.
However, PAS has since broken off ties with PKR and DAP, and is set to go against the new coalition, Pakatan Harapan, in the next general election.
Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali, who is also PKR deputy president, has kept PAS in his administration, with both sides saying they are upholding the people's mandate.
Sallehen said this split between PAS and the rest of the federal opposition Harapan could be why he was attacked on the Peduli Sihat envelopes.- Mkini
