KHIR TOYO’S SPEECH CUT SHORT AT SEMENYIH CAMPAIGN: ‘IT’S VERY SAD MALAYS WANT UNITY BUT CANNOT BECAUSE OF POLITICS,’ SAYS DR M’S FORMER BLUE-EYED BOY

The Election Commission (EC) has instructed a meet-and-greet session organised by BN at Kampung Rinching Hilir to stop as the organiser failed to produce a police permit.
This came after a team of EC enforcement officers conducted a surprise check at 10pm tonight.
At that time, former Selangor menteri besar Mohamad Khir Toyo was giving his speech.
He was the final speaker after Pontian MP Ahmad Maslan and Semenyih by-election candidate Zakaria Hanafi.
The organiser heeded EC’s instruction and Khir ended his speech abruptly after speaking for 11 minutes.
Ahmad (below, right) argued that no permit was needed as they were not organising a speech at a public place.
“This is not a ceramah and we did not mobilise the public. It is just a meeting of the party machinery.
“This is an in-house event, this is not a field, this is our operations centre,” he said.
The event was held at an open space compound of a residence where BN supporters were invited to a dinner before the ceramah started.
This is the second similar incident reported by the media.
On the night of Feb 16, a ceramah held by Pakatan Harapan Youth was stopped, also because the organiser did not have a permit.
Mohamad Khir (above, right) told media that he was disappointed that the prime minister had resorted to psywar to disrupt the unity of Malays between Umno and PAS.
“I think as the prime minister, he should support the unity of the Malays in any form,” he said.
“I think it is very sad that we want to unity but cannot because of politics,” he added.
Furthermore, he said, Mahathir had stressed the need for a good opposition to keep the government in check.
“We cannot form a government between Umno and PAS, so they should enhance the opposition,” he said, adding the ruling coalition should play clean politically.
