SEMENYIH POLLS | A group of MCA members turned heads at the nomination centre for the Semenyih by-election this morning with their “Malu Apa Bossku (What is there to be ashamed of, my boss)" T-shirts featuring former premier Najib Abdul Razak.
Speaking to Malaysiakini, Gopeng MCA division chief Patrick Ewe said members from Selangor, Perak and Negeri Sembilan were in Semenyih to support the BN candidate.
He also claimed that Najib is a better leader compared to Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
According to Ewe, all Mahathir does is emphasise that the Chinese are rich.
"Najib is a great leader. It (his defeat) is a big loss to the Chinese community and Malaysia,” he added.
Najib has reinvented his image with the “Malu Apa Bossku” tagline, which has gained significant traction on social media.
He is also known as the “King of Trolls” due to his regular potshots against Harapan leaders on Twitter and Facebook.
Similar to last month's Cameron Highlands by-election which BN won, Najib is expected to make his presence felt in Semenyih as well.
The battle for the Selangor state seat will be a four-cornered fight, and a litmus test for Harapan with regard to securing Malay votes.
Harapan candidate Muhammad Aiman Zailani is the son-in-law of the late incumbent Bakhtiar Mohd Nor, who ended Umno's dominance of the semi-urban Malay-majority seat in the last general election.
BN, meanwhile, is fielding retired UKM administrative officer Zakaria Hanafi.
The other two in the race are PSM's Nik Aziz Afiq Abdul and independent candidate Kuan Chee Heng. - Mkini
