Don’t make baseless claims, IGP warns

IGP Abdul Hamid Bador.
KUALA LUMPUR: Top cop Abdul Hamid Bador today warned he will not tolerate anyone making baseless claims against the police.
Hamid said unless those hurling accusations against the police had the facts to back up their claims, they should desist from doing so.
He was referring to a Facebook user, under the name of 1 Malaysia Tolak DAP, who had alleged that the forensics report in the investigation into a rape claim against a Perak executive councillor had gone missing.
“It is very irresponsible to make such a brazen statement. I am compelled to take action as my dignity and the integrity of the police is at stake. I need to address this,” he said.
The inspector-general of police was speaking to reporters after launching a book reading campaign for the police force in Cheras today.
He said investigation papers on the case had been opened and the person behind the post would be summoned.
“He or she will be called and questioned over the statement,” he said.
Last week, Perak police chief Razarudin Husain said the Facebook user would be investigated under Section 233 of Multimedia and Communications Act 1998.
Describing the post as irresponsible, he had said: “It is a slanderous accusation challenging the integrity of the police who are carrying out the probe in a most transparent way.”
In a statement, Razarudin said the Facebook user wrote: “The forensic report of Perak DAP Exco is missing. How can it go missing? Are there hidden hands instructing for the forensic report to squashed?” - FMT
