MCA: Yeo must resign over latest Pasir Gudang air pollution incident

PETALING JAYA: Yeo Bee Yin must resign from her ministerial post following the third and latest air pollution incident in Pasir Gudang this week which saw 33 pupils suffering from breathing difficulties, says the MCA.
Its deputy president Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon said the Energy, Technology, Science, Climate Change and Environment (Mestecc) Minister must take responsibility for failing to solve the issue of air pollution.
The first case took place in Sungai Kim Kim last March, while another incident in June affected two schools in Pasir Gudang.
Then on Wednesday (Aug 28) this week, 33 pupils from SK Taman Pasir Putih complained about a strong smell that caused them breathing difficulties.
“This latest incident reflects the incompetence of Mestecc and its minister.
"The Pakatan Harapan government appear not to appreciate human life or the health and security of local residents," Dr Mah said in a statement on Thursday (Aug 29).
He urged the relevant agencies and departments to step up efforts in assisting residents in high-risk areas and to publicly announce the findings of their investigations.
He said the second incident in June caused the closure of 111 primary and secondary schools, three higher education institutions, 14 private international schools and 347 private kindergartens.
“Right now, the third incident has affected 33 primary school pupils who have been sent to the Pasir Gudang Health Clinic for early treatment," said Dr Mah.
He added that Yeo had failed to stop the pollution incidents from happening again and called for her resignation. - Star
