PETALING JAYA: A 21-year-old singer was detained after he allegedly assaulted a petrol station attendant in Ampang.
It is learnt that the suspect had gone to the petrol station at about 3pm on Wednesday (Aug 28) and proceeded to the station's retail mart while the victim, a 28-year-old Bangladeshi man, was in the midst of arranging items on a shelf.
The suspect proceeded to punch the victim's chest before pulling his shirt and shouted cuss words.
Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Noor Azmi Yusof said a police patrol unit arrived at the scene some five minutes after the incident and introduced themselves to the suspect.
"The police officers then asked the suspect to show his MyKad, but he refused to do so and proceeded to question the policemen's authority.
"He was then arrested," ACP Noor Azmi said when contacted Thursday (Aug 29).
The case is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for preventing a public servant from discharging his duties, which carries a three-month prison term, and RM1,000 fine upon conviction, he added.
"We are also investigating under Section 323 of the Penal Code for causing hurt.
"It carries a one-year prison term and RM2,000 fine upon conviction," he said.
ACP Noor Azmi said the suspect had been remanded until Sunday (Sept 1). - Star
