DAP MP slated for appointment as new Niosh chairperson

A DAP lawmaker from Sarawak is purported to be the next chairperson for the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (Niosh), taking over the position previously helmed by Lee Lam Thye, whose contract with the organisation expired recently.
From information passed by sources close to the institute, Malaysiakini learnt that the post would be filled by Lanang MP Alice Lau (photo).
"Board members had recently been briefed by the Niosh executive director that Alice Lau would be the next chairperson," said one of the sources, who requested anonymity.
The sources said they, however, were not sure the exact date when Lau would be officially appointed.

Malaysiakini has also contacted Lau, who confirmed that she had been approached by the office of Human Resource Minister M Kulasegaran regarding the job offer.
However, according to her, she has yet to receive the offer in black-and-white.
Lau also said that she would not comment further on the matter, including whether it is appropriate for a Pakatan Harapan MP to fill the role - as the ruling coalition had promised no political appointees in government-linked agencies - and whether she would accept the role until she gets an offer letter.
"(The call) came from his (Kulasegaran's) office," she said when contacted on Thursday.
"I will comment only when I receive the letter."
Malaysiakini has also been contacting Kulasegaran's office since Thursday for his comments regarding the offer to Lau and several other issues related to other appointments in Niosh, including another key position in its board of directors.
There has yet to be an official response from Kulasegaran or his office. - Mkini
