Major World Achievements - 600,000 stories versus reading thousands of books

For those of you who do not know, there is supposed to be a fellow called Bukhari who says he collected over 600,000 stories about the prophet.

The information about Bukhari also differs. Some people say :
  • Bukhari once said, “l have written about 1800 persons, each of whom had a Saying of the Prophet .
  • He spent sixteen years in research
16 years only? And he examined 600,000 stories?

Assumption 1

Assuming he did his collection over 30 years, it means he would have collected on average  20,000 stories per year.

That means 1,666 stories per month or 55 stories every day.

Assuming a 10 hour working day, that would mean 5.5 stories every hour.

Or he had to collect one story every 11 minutes.

Assumption 2. If he did his research over 16 years then it would be collecting one story about every 5.86 minutes. This is just collecting. What about detailed examination of the stories?

What about stopping for breakfast, lunch, dinner, bathroom breaks etc? Or getting married, raising a family, having kids etc? All that takes time.

Bukhari says he met with 1,800 people to check out his research. They say that Bukhari travelled long distances to meet all these people. This 1800 people does not represent those whom he rejected as unreliable.

This must have taken much more time. Even if Bukhari spent an hour with each one of these 1800 people that would be 1800 hours or 75 days non stop. Assuming a 10 hour working day, it meant that Bukhari spent 180 days talking to these 1800 people.

Not including travelling time.   As an example there is a story that Bukhari travelled a long distance to meet a man about a story. As he approached that man he noticed the fellow using an empty feed bag to  trick his horse to come to him. So Bukhari decided that a man who tried to cheat his horse with an empty feedback was unreliable and so Bukhari left the fellow.

Wow! All that travelling gone, wasted. There were no GrabCars back then. Travel was on camel, donkey, horse or foot. It must have taken Bukhari days, weeks, months to travel and meet all those 1,800 people.

And if only 1,800 reliable people were involved then Bukhari must have collected an average of 600,000 / 1800 = 333 stories from each of those 1,800 people.

Wow! These are major world achievements.
Please feel free to agree or disagree.
Please feel free to be an expert yourself.

I only wish someone has kept the original work of Bukhari who died about 1,150 years ago. Because you see, THERE ARE NONE.

THERE ARE NO ORIGINAL BOOKS WRITTEN BY BUKHARI ANYWHERE.

We only have what other people say are books written by Bukhari. Oh oh!

Anyway here is another major world achievement :

said he was imprisoned for a total of 10-and-a-half years.
"And I read thousands of books. I spent time reading . . .

Wow! Read thousands of books in 10 and a half years.
Lets say he read 3,000 books. That would be 285 books a year.
That would be about 24 books a month.
That would be one book every 1 and a quarter days (1 1/4 days)
Non stop reading 24 hours.

Ok lah lets say he only read TWO 'thousands' of books.
That would be 190 books a year.
That would be about 16 books a month.
That would be one book about every 2 days
Non stop reading 24 hours.

These should be considered major world achievements.
Sajalah otak was not occupied.

  1. Kepada Tuan Syed anti-hadis. Apasal celupar sangat!
