PONTIAN: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia's Karmaine Sardini is the Pakatan Harapan candidate for the upcoming Tanjung Piai by-election.
Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin made the announcement during the launching of the Pakatan election machinery at Hai Kee Hall on Jalan Johor near Kampung Seri Bunian here on Monday (Oct 28).
The 66-year-old architect, who is also the Tanjung Piai Bersatu division chief, is no stranger to the local political scene as he was one of the main leaders that set up Bersatu in Tanjung Piai.
He was a former teacher at SMK Teluk Kerang who continued his studies in architecture and worked as an architect with Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) between 1980 to 2000.
Karmaine, who was previously Umno Tanjung Piai treasurer, contested as the Pakatan candidate in the Pontian parliamentary seat during GE14, where he lost to incumbent Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan by more than 800 votes.
The Johor government also appointed him as a board member at Yayasan Pelajaran Johor (YPJ) earlier this year.
The Election Commission has set Nov 2 as the nomination day and Nov 16 as the polling day for the parliamentary by-election.
The by-election was triggered after its MP Dr Md Farid Md Rafik, 42, died of heart complications on Sept 21. - Star
