Bukit Aman probing ‘SRC judge is Dr M’s kin’ claim for sedition

Malaysiakini

The federal police headquarters is investigating a social media post claiming that Kuala Lumpur High Court judge Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali is related to Langkawi MP Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
When contacted, Bukit Aman CID deputy director (Investigations/Legal) Mior Faridalathrash Wahid confirmed that they had taken over the case from the Taiping district police headquarters.
“Investigations are being done under the Sedition Act 1948 and the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998,” he told Malaysiakini, not mentioning which sections of the laws were being used.
Earlier today, Bersatu member Mohd Afzanizam Abdul Rahman lodged a police report in Taiping over a tweet yesterday by Pertubuhan Minda dan Sosial Prihatin Malaysia president Ramesh Rao.
Ramesh had claimed that Nazlan -  who found former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak guilty of all seven charges in his RM42 million SRC International criminal trial yesterday - was Mahathir’s grandson or grandnephew.
Mahathir’s children Marina and Mukhriz have both refuted the allegation.
According to his police report, which Malaysiakini sighted, Afzanizam urged the police to probe the tweet for inciting “hatred” against Mahathir and for affecting the judge’s integrity and undermining the judiciary.
“The police took my statement at about 3 pm today,” he said when contacted.
After delivering his verdict, Nazlan sentenced Najib to an RM210 million fine and a 12-year jail term.
The judge allowed a stay of execution but raised the bail amount by RM1 million which Najib posted today. - Mkini
