PETALING JAYA: If opposition parties were confident they were in a position of victory, they would not delay holding the next general election by even a minute, says Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
“Never in the history of the Malaysian opposition have they had to make excuse after excuse so that elections are not held.
“So, why should more than 32 million Malaysians allow the opposition, including Nga Kor Ming and DAP, to determine our future?” Zahid said in a Facebook post.
He said opposition parties had been writhing like “worms in a fire” since Umno’s Supreme Council decided that Parliament should be dissolved soon to allow an early general election.
“Fear, confusion, and anxiety are overwhelming the opposition as they approach the people’s judgement on polling day,” he said, adding that this was why Umno had been targetted and accused of disrespecting the Federal Constitution.
“(But) is calling for GE15 defying the constitution or the King?” he said. He added that in all its actions, Umno had been guided by the law and the Federal Constitution “as we’re not your average political party”.
Zahid urged the opposition to stop manipulating the people by spinning lies, as the people already knew the truth.
He also questioned which party it was that tried to sign the Rome Statute and ratify the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination, which could have affected the power of the Malay Rulers.
“That is part of the many agendas that BN opponents try to use to change the country’s values and foundations, for their political interests,” Zahid said. - FMT
