Muda fields three in BN strongholds, after pact with PH

Muda’s first three candidates (second row, from left): Danial Abd Majeed, Siti Rahayu Baharin and Lim Wei Jiet.

PETALING JAYA: Muda has named its first three candidates for the general election, who are being fielded in Barisan Nasional strongholds after the party reached an electoral pact with Pakatan Harapan.

The three candidates are Danial Abd Majeed (who will contest Kepala Batas in Penang), Siti Rahayu Baharin (Tanjong Karang, Selangor) and Lim Wei Jiet (Tanjung Piai, Johor).

Muda election director Amira Aisya said the party would announce candidates for more seats soon.

Party president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman declined to comment on whether he would seek re-election in Muar, Johor. He said he would fight to clear his name of corruption charges brought against him.

Amira also said that negotiations with PH had concluded this evening and both parties have formed an electoral pact.

Amira said that part of the negotiations included a mandate for Muda to use its own logo in GE15, and there will be no seat clashes between both parties.

“As part of the negotiations, we also hereby declare that the party fully supports Anwar Ibrahim as the candidate for the prime minister’s post,” she said.

The three candidates named today are among Muda’s earliest supporters. Rahayu and Lim are co-founders of the party while Danial, an electronic engineer, was one of the earliest members in Penang. - FMT
