Ahmad Maslan: PAS using own logo in GE15 to ‘hide’ alliance with PN

PAS' decision to use its own logo in the three states it leads is to “hide” its alliance with Bersatu and the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition, an Umno leader claimed.

According to Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan, the strategy (to use their own logo) was also to “obscure” the voters' view, and confuse them when casting their votes in the 15th general election (GE15).

"I see it as a strategy to cloud the voters' judgment. They (PAS) don't want to be seen as being allied to Bersatu - a party that has 25 out of 31 MPs who defected from other parties.

"In my view, PAS is using its own logo to confuse voters in the three states where it has a 'hardcore' supporter base, who might reject the party's alliance with PN," Umno Online quoted the Pontian MP saying during a visit at several houses at his constituency, last night.

Ahmad (above) was responding to a remark by PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man yesterday that the party will use its own logo when contesting in the three states it currently leads - Kelantan, Terengganu, and Kedah, while it might use the PN logo in other states.

Commenting on the differing stance, Ahmad said it showed that PAS was not confident about PN's chances of winning the election.

"It shows PAS' lack of confidence in PN. If it has confidence in the coalition, PAS will use the coalition's logo and flag when contesting, and not their own."

Ahmad then reiterated claims that the criminal charges against Umno leaders were “selective political prosecution” initiated when Pakatan Harapan was in power.

"If we look at the list, part of the 40 charges against Zahid (Ahmad Zahid Hamidi) have been dropped, Azeez Rahim was discharged (not amounting to acquittal), Tengku Adnan (Tengku Mansor) was freed.

“Only Najib Abdul Razak was imprisoned, and even the circumstances (behind his jailing) are being questioned.

"We are awaiting the outcome of the judicial review (against Najib's sentencing) at the Federal Court. So if that is what (corruption) the PAS leadership are capitalising on, then it is a mistake,” he said.

Ahmad said this after PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang stated that PAS chose PN over Umno/BN to work with in GE15 as the latter was soaked in the “murky waters of bribery”. - Mkini
