Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun will likely be Pakatan Harapan's candidate for the Port Dickson constituency to replace incumbent Anwar Ibrahim.
A PKR leader, who requested anonymity, told Malaysiakini that the decision to field Aminuddin (above) in Port Dickson was decided yesterday upon confirmation that Anwar would be fielded in Tambun, Perak.
"Anwar is a 'heavyweight'. We believe the menteri besar is the best person to replace (Anwar) in Port Dickson," said the source.
Port Dickson - a mixed-ethnicity constituency - has been held by PKR since 2008.
Anwar will be leading Harapan's charge in Perak, which has been identified as the coalition's frontline state.
Aminuddin has been the Sikamat assemblyperson since 2008. He was appointed as the Negeri Sembilan menteri besar a decade later.
As the Negeri Sembilan Legislative Assembly is yet to be dissolved, Aminuddin will only have to deal with a parliamentary election for now.
Aminuddin will likely face a challenge from MIC, which has traditionally represented BN in the elections for Port Dickson. - Mkini
