PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, who is fond of hurling baseless accusations at DAP, should be made aware of the Agong’s wish list for a clean and civil general election, said Charles Santiago.
“Has Hadi read His Majesty’s wish for all political parties and politicians to be respectful? If not, someone please send it to him,” he told Malaysiakini.
Commenting on Hadi branding DAP as “pro- communists'', the party’s incumbent MP for Klang said he was not surprised that the PAS president was willing to stoop to that level.
“Hadi has always tried to caricature DAP as a way of shoring up support for himself. Take a look at the states run by PAS and one would know these people are only about politicking,” Charles added.
He then went on to warn that Hadi was “playing with fire” with his attempts to drive a wedge between the different races.
“This can have grave consequences in multiracial Malaysia. I am sure Hadi is aware of this - but his focus is to remain in power using all means possible,” he said.
Therefore, Charles urged Malaysians to vote out “racists and vile politicians” who create divisions, starting with Hadi.
“And include Umno politicians as well,” he added.
In a statement from Istana Negara yesterday, Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah reminded politicians not to discard good values.
Among others, the ruler urged them to refrain from provocation, insults and slander.
In a series of tweets, Hadi had called on voters to reject DAP, claiming that communism rejected the belief in God.
“They terrorise more than the Christian and Jewish colonisers,” he was reported as stating.
Similar to PAS, Umno has often peddled the narrative that the predominantly-Chinese DAP would threaten the position of the Malays and Islam. - Mkini
