Friday Notes From The Quran (14/10/2022) : Pharaoh Called Moses A Kafir

Its been a long day today and I was not able to update the Blog earlier. Here is a quick verse that is of interest.

Using the word 'kafir' has gained some notoriety lately because some non-Muslims have taken offence at them being referred as kafirs by some Muslims (not all). The word kafir has been associated as an exclusively Muslim term used as a sling shot against non Muslims.

I would advise the non Muslims to not only not take offence but to not give it any relevance.

But here is a verse from the Quran:

Surah 26:19

Wafa-'alta  fa'-lata-ka al-latee fa-'alta wa-anta minal kafireena

And you did your deed which you did, and you are from the disbelievers - Mohd Shaikh  (26:19)

Here is a bit of context

26:18     He (Pharaoh) said, "Did we not raise you (Moses) from infancy, and you spent many years with us?
26:19     "Then you (Moses) committed the crime that you committed, and you were KAFIREENA."
26:20     He (Moses) said, "Indeed, I did it when I was astray.

So here is a clear verse in the Quran where an obviously non-Muslim tyrant Pharaoh calls Moses - a messenger and a nabi - a KAFIREENA (disbeliever or rejector).

The word KAFIR means to cover something over, to reject it, to go against something.

Some say the English word 'cover' is derived from the word kafir.

So when Pharaoh called Moses a KAFIREEN he was referring to Moses as someone who had killed a man and therefore broken the laws of the land.

This is just an example of a non-Muslim like Pharaoh calling a Messenger and Nabi like Moses a KAFIR.

The views expressed are those of the writer and do not necessarily reflect those of MMKtT.
