PETALING JAYA: Datuk Nurulhidayah Ahmad Zahid has warned against attempts to pit her against her father for the Bagan Datuk parliamentary seat.
In an Instagram post on Friday (Oct 21), she quashed talk that her father, Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, would not be defending the Bagan Datuk seat, which he had held since 1995.
“It’s not good to share reports stating his (Ahmad Zahid) daughter or right hand man will be standing in Bagan Datuk.
“I myself will make sure that he contests there,” she said, adding that it was also inappropriate to pit children against their father.
“It’s a Friday (a holy day for Muslims) and there is sin (through speculating).
“As his (Ahmad Zahid) daughter, I will always support him and make sure he stands in Bagan Datuk,” she said.
Recently, Sinar Harian reported that Ahmad Zahid may not be contesting in the coming polls.
The daily also reported that the person believed to replace the Barisan Nasional chairman for the constituency is Ahmad Zahid’s daughter Nurulhidayah.
A right hand man of Ahmad Zahid, who was not named in the report, was said to be another person being considered for the seat.
Umno has since denied the report, with the party’s executive secretary Datuk Sumali Reduan describing it as “political propaganda”.
“I have not heard of such a thing and there is no official statement.
“Therefore, I shall assume that such talk is just political propaganda,” he told Umno Online on Friday (Oct 21). - Star
