DAP's national vice-chairperson Nga Kor Ming has strongly hinted that Pakatan Harapan's candidate for prime minister will be someone contesting in Perak.
"Perak once gave birth to famous leaders but there are a few now. There has never been a prime minister from Perak, and this is our golden opportunity," said the incumbent Teluk Intan MP at the Pakatan Harapan convention held at the Ipoh Convention Centre tonight.
He said Perak has witnessed fierce fights in the last three elections and that the key to winning the people's mandate might be to have a national-level figure spearhead the battle in Perak, which Harapan has already declared to be a frontline state.
Nga (above) said this right after Malaysiakini broke a story revealing that PKR president Anwar Ibrahim was set to contest in Tambun, Perak for the 15th general election (GE15) which will be held on Nov 19.
"If we win on Nov 19, just imagine that we will be able to build a corridor of hope in Malaysia from Penang, Perak, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan.
"With these four states, we can galvanise the support of other states in the form of a prosperous and just society built on integrity," he said.
‘Kita Boleh!’
It is a sea of white, red and blue at the Ipoh Convention Centre as Anwar is expected to deliver a rousing speech to rally some 7,000 party members and supporters who showed up.
Some other important announcements expected to be made from the convention this evening are Harapan’s prime ministerial candidate, the seat allocations for component parties, the election manifesto, its theme song and the mascot for the upcoming general election.
Meanwhile, PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail also introduced the coalition’s slogan for GE15 - ‘Kita Boleh!’.
“We have come up with a tagline for the election. We have discussed and given our opinion.
“For this election, we will only be chanting the same tone which is ‘Kita Boleh!’,” he said.
Other leaders scheduled to address the convention are DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke and Amanah president Mohamad Sabu. - Mkini
