Mat Sabu: I may be dead soon, up to youths to save nation

Amanah president Mohamad Sabu is leaving the country’s future to the new generation of politicians as he said the youths are likely to outlive him, hence it is up to them to save the nation.

Referring to Muda, he commended the party’s inception during a tumultuous political era of Malaysian politics, given the developments of the past few years.

“I may die at any time, so may the youth. But generally speaking, the youth will live longer than I will.

“I have been in politics for over 20 years, and Malaysia is in a terrible (political) state.

“Therefore it is up to the youth to stand up and save Malaysia,” he said during a speech in Parit Jawa, Muar last night.

Mohamad was speaking at the ‘Mega Muar’ ceramah hosted by Muda, which also saw speeches from Johor DAP chairperson Liew Chin Tong and incumbent Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.

Muda and Pakatan Harapan are set to have an electoral pact for the 15th general election.

‘Unlike govt, we care for rakyat’

The Amanah leader also took a swipe at caretaker prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s government for dissolving Parliament, alluding that it was done to save Umno’s top guns from indictment.

“Parliament has never been dissolved to save corrupt individuals. We (the elected representatives) want to continue aiding the rakyat. However, (they) want to dissolve Parliament during floods to save themselves,” he said.

The opposition has linked Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s insistence to hold GE15 this year to save the “court cluster” from being charged in court.

Incumbent Iskandar Puteri MP Lim Kit Siang referred to Zahid’s speech at a recent MIC delegates assembly as a “brutally frank” admission.

He was referring to a portion of the speech where the Umno president suggested that BN leaders could face criminal trials if the coalition loses the election and that this could only be avoided if BN wins a “dominant victory” in GE15.

The opposition’s main reason against holding GE15 this year is due to flooding risks during the monsoon season in November and December. - Mkini
