PETALING JAYA: The Malaysia Competition Commission (MyCC) is asking the Federal Court to overturn its decision on MyCC’s attempt to reinstate a fine of RM10 million each on two airlines.
Lawyers for MyCC filed an application to petition the Federal Court to review and set aside its decision rejecting the commission’s attempt to reinstate the fine.
MyCC had fined AirAsia and Malaysia Airlines RM10 million each in 2014 for entering into an agreement on sharing air travel markets.
Two years later, the Competition Appeal Tribunal ruled that the fines should be cancelled. MyCC filed a judicial review and the High Court reinstated the fines in 2018.
However, the decision was overturned by the Court of Appeal in 2021 and in February this year, the Federal Court unanimously dismissed the appeal by MyCC to re-impose the fine. - FMT
