PAS’ Idris coy on returning to contest in Bukit Gantang

PAS vice-president Idris Ahmad said the party had finalised the seat allocations for the polls.

SHAH ALAM: PAS vice-president Idris Ahmad was coy when asked if he would return to contest the Bukit Gantang parliamentary seat in the impending 15th general election (GE15).

“Just wait (for nominations) and you’ll find out,” he said at an event here today.

Idris said this when asked to comment on reports that Bersatu – which, like PAS, is a part of Perikatan Nasional – was eyeing the constituency.

Idris won the seat in 2013 with a majority of 986 votes.

However, in GE14 he lost the seat to Barisan Nasional candidate Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal who secured 22,450 votes. Idris only managed to get 16,052 votes.

Syed Abu Hussin then left Umno and became an independent before joining Bersatu.

Idris went on to reveal that PAS had finalised the seat allocations for the polls.

“It’s complete, but I can’t tell you,” he told reporters.

Last week, caretaker Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced that Parliament had been dissolved, paving the way for GE15.

The Election Commission is expected to announce the dates for nominations and polling this week. - FMT
