PETALING JAYA: Umno information chief Shahril Hamdan has paid tribute to DAP’s Kasthuri Patto, after the former Batu Kawan MP announced that she would not be contesting in the 15th general election (GE15).
Shahril, the Umno Youth vice-chief, recalled a short conversation he had with Kasthuri while she was waiting to meet the prime minister over the execution of Malaysian Nagaenthran K Dharmalingam in Singapore.
“In a few short minutes I learned a lot and realised that she is not your typical MP.
“She was passionate in what she believed in and in speaking for the voiceless. Best wishes,” he said in a Twitter post.
Earlier today, Kasthuri announced she will not be running in GE15, insisting she was not dropped from her Batu Kawan seat or moved to another constituency.
She said it was “the hardest decision I have had to make in my life”.
The two-term Batu Kawan MP and daughter of the late P Patto, who was a party strongman in the 1970s and ’80s, said she would remain in the party and continue with her passion for fighting for human rights, raising women’s issues and eradicating child marriages. - FMT
