Report: KJ might face MB's aide in Kuala Pilah

A news report had speculated that Umno may field Khairy Jamaluddin in Kuala Pilah.

According to Sinar Harian, an Umno source said that Khairy needed a "safe seat” that would ensure his victory because he was considered an asset to the party.

"Therefore, the Port Dickson seat is not suitable for Khairy. There are suggestions to field him for Kuala Pilah. We'll see," said the source.

Khairy is the incumbent Rembau MP. He has held the seat for three terms.

However, he was forced to make way for Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan for the upcoming Parliamentary election.

Following this, several BN divisions in various states have openly offered to host Khairy as an MP candidate.

There was also speculation that Umno may field Khairy in Port Dickson - a seat that the opposition had held since 2008.

Meanwhile, the same article speculated that Pakatan Harapan was likely to field Negeri Sembilan PKR information chief Norazman Mohamad for Kuala Pilah.

Citing an anonymous PKR source, the article said Norazman had several advantages because he was a Kuala Pilah local and was an aide to state Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun.

"We know Kuala Pilah is an Umno stronghold... Norazman's experience and the fact that he's a local was among the factors for his candidacy being considered," said the source.

During the 2018 elections, Bersatu's Eddin Syazlee Shith wrested the seat from Umno by securing just 44.8 percent of the vote.

There are five state assembly seats under the Kuala Pilah parliamentary constituency. Umno currently controls four - Juasseh, Seri Menanti, Senaling, and Johol. - Mkini
