KUALA LUMPUR: Some Titiwangsa residents claim that Rina Harun neglected her constituency in the four years that she was supposed to serve it as MP.

Their allegations came in the wake of reports that her party, Bersatu, may move her from Titiwangsa to Sepang in the coming polls.

Three residents who spoke to FMT said Rina, who served in two different ministries during her tenure as MP, was often absent from Titiwangsa and never spoke up for her constituents.

Awang Taib, a 62-year-old trader, spoke of the Wanita Bersatu chief’s alleged lack of involvement in expediting the development of the Jalan Raja Bot market in Chow Kit.

The project to upgrade the market had been left unfinished since 2013 despite several changes of contractors, he said.

“I have never met her, not even once. She has never visited our area or the failed development,” he said.

“I hope she doesn’t contest in Titiwangsa. We don’t need anything from her anymore. We’ve been asking for almost five years with no success.”

Tarmizi Akil, 56, said local traders had no way to convey their concerns to Rina over the rebuilding of the Kampung Datuk Keramat market, which he claimed was at a standstill.

The market caught fire on March 17 last year and again last June 11.

Tarmizi said he was sure Kuala Lumpur City Hall would have looked into the issue of the market’s safety if Rina had raised it.

“Until today, there has been no action regarding the fire damage,” he said.

In the 2018 general election, Rina won the Titiwangsa seat by a 4,139-vote majority against candidates from Barisan Nasional and PAS.

News reports have said Rina might be contesting in Sepang instead of Titiwangsa in the coming general election. She heads the women’s wing of Sepang Bersatu.

A resident of a flat in Kampung Sungai Baru, Ridzuan Yusof, 43, voiced concerns over the redevelopment of his home, saying Rina had failed to speak up on the issue.

He said the redevelopment had forced tenants to choose between moving to temporary transit homes or receiving a monthly rental compensation of RM1,100.

“Until now, the rate of RM1,100 has not increased. Although the agreement was signed in 2016, there has been no revised offer,” he said. - FMT
