YOURSAY | ‘Opposition politicians need to look beyond their parties and themselves.’
Work together for the people’s sake, Jomo urges opposition
Headhunter: Prominent economist Jomo Kwame Sundaram is right. For once, the opposition should put their narrow individual party objectives aside and band together to defeat the BN.
I think there is a good chance that if there is a united front, the opposition can form a new government.
This is one general election where the people want to express their anger more than any fancy manifesto that the opposition can dangle in front of us.
It's all about a stolen government, corrupt leaders draining our money, the rising cost of living, abuse of power and injustice. They affect everyone in the country in one way or another.
Apanama is Back: It looks like Jomo, a former member of the Council of Eminent Persons (CEP) under the previous Pakatan Harapan administration, knows something is brewing.
If a collaboration of all opposition parties is the only way to save this country, let's do it. Sometimes principles should take the back seat if the nation's future is at stake.
If you ask me, “Are you suggesting the 14th general election strategy?”, I will say, “Yes”. Why? Because in GE14 we were together to stop the kleptocrats and now, again, we need to get together to stop the kleptocrats.
Sometimes the same scenario may require the same strategy. Look at how Umno, MIC and MCA get together, even though it is just a master-servant relationship. Because they want to win. So, opposition parties do not want to win?
We do not have many choices here. Your enemy’s enemy is your friend. It is that simple. Remember, the nation comes first.
Kenny Tan: Indeed, the opposition parties cannot go far on their own.
You must unite with the other opposition parties to unseat the ruling BN, which has plenty of resources at its disposal. It is a David versus Goliath scenario.
I pray that the opposition parties will come to an electoral understanding to avoid multi-cornered fights which favour the BN. One-to-one fights will give the opposition a better chance to defeat the BN.
PurpleJaguar0553: Don't forget that former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his successor, Muhyiddin Yassin, betrayed the mandate given in GE14. Who is to say they won't do it again?
They won't accept a Harapan MP as the prime minister even if Harapan wins the most seats. Pejuang and PAS don't champion the welfare of all Malaysians, they are only concerned about the Malays and Malay and Islamic superiority.
How then can it be rational for people to support such a coalition? It may be better to support BN and some corruption rather than a disjointed opposition that forms an unstable government with constant infighting.
Fahmi denies Anwar set conditions for Dr M, Muhyiddin to work with Harapan
Falcon: PKR president Anwar Ibrahim, it is simply this: To defeat the kleptocrats, their infected family members, their solicitors, the court clusters, the cronies, the gravy-train industry captains, opposition politicians need to look beyond their parties and themselves.
To Harapan, Bersatu (minus PAS), Warisan, it's time to make an electoral pact with all those, who are challenging BN in the interest of the nation.
To avoid multi-cornered fights, it's that time to forgive and move forward together.
Anwar, both Bersatu chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin and his deputy Azmin Ali were once your comrades. Despite your deep wounds and hurt, could you, Anwar, please reach out to both to set up a formidable block to take on BN in GE15?
Let's put the best candidate in each constituency without fighting each other, please.
BobbyO: Let’s face the facts, without a Malay party joining the opposition, Umno cannot be toppled.
The Johor and Malacca elections clearly showed that if there is a one-to-one fight, then the opportunity to win is higher. Otherwise, the votes will be split in Umno's favour.
Umno has billions of ringgit stashed away to use in this mother of all elections. This is their do-or-die battle. They will go all out to win big.
In addition, we know that PAS and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) will become their partners if the numbers don't reach the targeted figure.
So, the opposition needs to think rationally and not emotionally.
The people must seriously decide. It is better to unite to oust these individuals that have destroyed this nation. And they will destroy it completely if given the power to rule. - Mkini
