Jealousy, old wounds open up as accolades pour in for KK Mart after dark clouds have passed

THAT behind every dark cloud there is an every-shining sun (quote by spiritual author Marianne Williamson) holds true for KK Super Mart which barely eight months ago found itself under siege with threats of boycott and demand for apology banners to be hoisted across all its 881 outlets nationwide in the so-called “sock-gate” saga.

As the truth has eventually prevailed, many seemingly rational netizens have begun to back the 24-hour convenient store chain as evident from their reaction in thwarting blatant attempts by their nationalistic-minded counterparts to continue harping on the past to undermine the business establishment.

This is especially so after founder and executive director of KK Group of Companies Datuk Seri Dr KK Chai was named as the Entrepreneur of the Year at the SEBA 2024 awards which took place recently.

Pro-opposition social media influencer Fairuz 🇲🇾 法瑞斯 🇲🇾 فيروز (@fairuz_azmi83) found himself in hostile waters with his one-liner post of “very awkward to read this piece of news”.

“The KK Mart founder was crowned the award for being the first person to develop a local franchise with a foothold abroad, especially in India and Nepal,” a commenter schooled the poster.

“It’s only awkward if there’s any party trying to mix business activities with politics.”

An annual initiative organised by Yayasan Usahawan Malaysia, the SEBA awards recognise fast moving businesses and creditable entrepreneurs across Singapore, China and Malaysia based on an intricate qualitative and quantitative scoring system.

The qualitative and quantitative criteria that are looked into are audited financial reports, brochures, interview performance, financial sustainability and market share, among others. This meticulous judging phase ensures only the crème de le crème is selected, thus making SEBA a premier and prestigious regional award.

Apart from the SEBA 2024 award, KK Mart had earlier in October demonstrated its exceptional success by bagging The Great Asia Outstanding Corporation Award at the The Asia Economic & Entrepreneurship Summit held at Royale Chulan, Kuala Lumpur.

The recognition underscores KK Mart’s outstanding accomplishments in establishing itself as a leading retail brand, not only in Malaysia but also on the regional and international stage.

Another commenter went on to draw a comparison between KK Mart and GISBH (deviant Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings Sdn Bhd) which overlooked the welfare aspect of its staff in terms of their salaries and statutory rights.

One netizen struck the right chord by implying that at the end of the day, it is the Malays who would “sell out” or become traitor to their own race.

Aside from Fairuz 🇲🇾 法瑞斯 🇲🇾 فيروز, Ratu Naga – the political activist and social media influencer with a pro-opposition slant – too, received some tongue lashing for sarcastically “congratulating the Madani government” over the recognition earned by KK Mart

Below are some self-explanatory comments levelled at the pro-Perikatan Nasional (PN) blogger whose real name is Syarul Ema Rena Abu Samah:
