12 areas on ‘alert’ level as scorching weather continues

PETALING JAYA:
 The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a Level 1 (alert) warning for 12 areas in Peninsular Malaysia, as the scorching weather in the northern region continues.

The Level 2 (heatwave) warning for Padang Terap, Kedah, issued following temperatures of between 37 and 40 degrees Celsius lasting three days in a row, has been maintained.

The Level 1 alert is issued following daily maximum temperatures of 35 to 37 degrees Celsius for at least three consecutive days.

In a statement issued at 6am today, MetMalaysia said the 12 areas – up from 10 previously – are Perlis; Baling, Sik, Pendang, Pokok Sena, Kubang Pasu, Langkawi, Kuala Muda and Bandar Baharu in Kedah; the Timur Laut district in Penang; Hulu Perak in Perak; and Rembau in Negeri Sembilan.
