Newly elected Muda president Amira Aisya Abdul Aziz has set her sights on introducing a two-term limit for the party’s leadership positions as part of a broader push for internal reform.
According to a Free Malaysia Today report, she said the measure was intended to prevent power from becoming concentrated in the hands of a select few and to guard against potential abuse.
The Puteri Wangsa assemblyperson added that it was important for the party to adopt such a policy internally before advocating for it at the national level.
“I have always believed that whatever reforms Muda wants to bring to our beloved Malaysia must first be reflected in our party,” Amira said.
She also said term limits were part of her manifesto in the recent party election, adding she did not intend to hold the party’s treasurer position, a stance that reflects her objection to holding conflicting roles.
Amira now leads Muda after former president Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman stepped down in 2023 after being found guilty in a misappropriation case.

However, the Court of Appeal, in a unanimous decision last June, acquitted the Muar MP of four charges of criminal breach of trust, misappropriation of property, and money laundering linked to RM1.12 million of Bersatu Youth funds.
The very next day, the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) confirmed that it filed an appeal against the verdict in the Federal Court. Then, in December, the Federal Court, in a rare move, instructed the prosecution to rethink its position on reinstating the four criminal charges against Syed Saddiq.
Meanwhile, Amira also reportedly indicated that she is likely to defend her state seat in the next Johor election. - Mkini
