Firefighters battle massive bushfire in Kudat

KUDAT: Firefighters took more than three hours to bring a large bushfire here under control.

The flames had spread to about 20ha, an area equivalent to approximately 57 football fields.

The bushfire occurred in Kampung Naradang Darat Sikuati, about 20km from the nearest fire station.

The authorities were alerted at 11.06am via the emergency line.

Firefighters deployed fire beaters and portable backpack pumps to contain the flames, working under challenging field conditions.

"The operation was brought under control at 2.31pm and fully extinguished at 2.42pm after ensuring that there were no remaining hotspots or secondary hazards," the department said in a statement.

No casualties or injuries were reported. - NST
