Deputy minister Fuziah Salleh said an investigation found that the pump ran out of diesel while refuelling, and the meter continued to function even after the supply was depleted.
“(It was) also found that the petrol station was not equipped with a fuel volume detection system or an ‘automatic cut-off’ feature when fuel runs out, and relied instead on manual dipping checks,” she said in a statement today.
She said the actual diesel dispensed totalled RM232.07, and the station fully refunded the customer on April 9, with the customer’s agreement.
Fuziah said technical inspections showed all pumps at the premises were within valid calibration periods, while tests using a 20-litre measuring device recorded readings within permitted limits.
Checks under the Control of Supplies Act 1961 also confirmed that the station’s licences were valid and active.
“However, the station has been issued a stern warning to ensure full compliance with legal requirements and to improve operational monitoring to prevent a recurrence,” she said.
Fuziah said it was an isolated case, which did not reflect the overall fuel supply system, which remains stable and under control.
She also urged the public not to speculate or circulate unverified information. - FMT
