JOHOR BARU: A police truck carrying prisoners from court to prison narrowly avoided skidding off Jalan Johor Baru–Ayer Hitam on Tuesday.
The 4.45pm incident, captured on a motorist's dashcam, has since gone viral on TikTok.
The footage, which has been widely shared, alleged that the driver was speeding, with a caption claiming the police vehicle was "pulling a drift" – a term popularised by the film The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift.
Johor Baru (North) police chief Assistant Commissioner Radin Ramlan Radin Taha said the vehicle was driven by a 34-year-old policeman, accompanied by escort personnel and several prisoners, en route from the court complex to Kluang Prison.
He said the truck nearly skidded due to wet road conditions while travelling in the right lane, but the driver managed to regain control and bring the vehicle to a safe stop.
"Initial investigations found the road was slippery due to rain, and there were traces of an oil spill which likely contributed to the incident," he said in a statement today.
He added that the driver, escort team and all prisoners on board were unharmed. - NST
