Kedah Exco, deputy speaker sacked by Bersatu to carry on duties pending appeal

ALOR STAR: The two state assemblymen sacked from Bersatu last Friday will continue carrying out their duties in the state government until the party's appeals board decides on their fate.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor said this regarding the status of state executive councillor Dzowahir Ab Ghani and Deputy Kedah Speaker Abdul Razak Khamis.

Sanusi said all parties must respect Bersatu's internal processes, including the 14-day window provided for members to file an appeal.

"I have been informed that they are submitting appeals, so we will wait for that process. Everyone must follow party procedures, and I cannot rush into a decision.

"We have no issues here in Kedah. The situation is calm. This is an internal party matter that needs to be resolved through the proper channels.

"Those who were suspended are still party members, they just cannot exercise their rights as members," he said at a press conference after chairing the state executive councillors meeting today.

It was reported that Bersatu had sacked several leaders and members including Dzowahir and Abdul Razak, who are Suka Menanti and Sungai Tiang assemblymen respectively.

It was also reported yesterday that Derga assemblyman Mohamad Amri Wahab was hit with a two-term suspension.

Sanusi, who is also the state Perikatan Nasional chairman, said he had met with bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and had an audience with the Sultan of Kedah to seek the ruler's advice on maintaining state harmony.

"We cannot be hasty. There is no point in me making an immediate decision if their appeals are later accepted. We will wait for the party's verdict.

"The appeal process must be respected as there are protocols and party ethics to be followed before a final decision is reached," he said.

Meanwhile, Dzowahir confirmed that he has submitted his appeal.

"We were given two weeks to appeal, which I have done. It is now up to the appeals board.

"We have no issues and will continue to perform our respective duties for the welfare of the people and the state," he said. - NST
