DAP Youth has called for Parliament to be dissolved immediately if Johor BN intends to contest the next state election alone.
In a statement today, the wing urged Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to call for simultaneous general and Johor state elections if any parties within the Madani government seek to undermine cooperation.
“If there are parties inclined to stab from behind and belittle the spirit of unity, then DAP Youth calls on PMX (Anwar) to dissolve Parliament immediately in order to hold the general election and Johor state election simultaneously with other states.
“This is so the people can make a clear and final decision once and for all to punish traitors,” it said in response to recent remarks from Johor Umno leaders about BN potentially contesting on its own in the next state election.
On May 16, Johor Menteri Besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi declared that Johor BN will contest all 56 state seats on its own, just a day before Harapan’s national convention in Johor Bahru.

BN won 40 state seats in the 2022 Johor election, securing a two-thirds majority that allowed it to form a state government without Harapan.
‘Harapan stuck by Umno’
Commenting further, DAP Youth claimed the principle of avoiding clashes between Harapan and BN candidates had “given life” to Umno following its poor showing in the last general election.
“This is a political reality that cannot simply be erased,” it said.
DAP Youth also questioned who had worked with Umno to prevent further erosion of its support when the party faced its worst electoral defeat.
The wing further pointed to Harapan’s willingness, after the 2023 elections in six states, to allow Umno to join the Selangor and Penang state administrations, despite such cooperation not having taken place since 2008.

It also cited Harapan’s support for Umno menteri besar candidates in Perak and Pahang as part of efforts to ensure political stability.
At the same time, DAP Youth criticised certain unnamed leaders within the unity government for allegedly threatening the stability of the Negeri Sembilan administration and talking about an “all-out war” in Johor despite holding senior federal positions.
‘Umno alone can’t defeat PN’
The wing also cited findings from political analysts Hisommudin Bakar from Ilham Centre and Azmil Tayeb from Universiti Sains Malaysia, who had argued that Umno could not defeat Perikatan Nasional in Malay-Muslim identity politics.
“This means Umno still needs the support of urban and non-Malay voters, who can only be convinced through stability, performance, and moderation - not destructive rhetoric,” it said.
DAP Youth also referred to projections by electoral reform group Tindak Malaysia, which purportedly showed Harapan had the potential to form the Johor government with 29 seats if the 2022 general election and state election had been held simultaneously. - Mkini
