The Bangladeshi government has saved a rare albino buffalo, whose blonde tuft bears an uncanny resemblance to US President Donald Trump’s hairstyle, from being slaughtered as part of an Aidiladha sacrifice.
According to Reuters, the buffalo weighing 700kg, has been sold for ritual slaughter.
However, a Home Ministry official said the government stepped in following a “surge of public interest” in the animal named after the US president.
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed ordered the buffalo to be spared and moved to a zoo in Dhaka. The buyer was refunded.
“At the last moment, the decision was taken to spare the buffalo from sacrifice due to security concerns and the unusual level of public interest,” a ministry official was quoted as saying.
The buffalo drew unexpected nationwide attention after videos of it went viral online. Soon, crowds began flocking to the farm, with visitors travelling from different regions to catch a glimpse of its distinctive blond tuft and notably calm behaviour.
Farm owner Ziauddin Mridha explained that the name was suggested by his younger brother, who noticed the striking resemblance.
He also said the buffalo is exceptionally docile but requires extra care, including regular feeding and frequent bathing. - Mkini
