The vessel, bearing pennant number 143, is the final ship in the three-vessel LMSB2 series built at the shipyard and is expected to be delivered to the navy by the end of next year.
In a social media post, the RMN said the naming and launching ceremony was witnessed by the Sultan of Kedah, Al Aminul Karim Sultan Sallehuddin Ibni Almarhum Sultan Badlishah, and officiated by the Sultanah of Kedah, Sultanah Maliha binti Almarhum Tengku Ariff, as the Royal Sponsor.
The vessel was named in honour of the late General Tan Sri Tunku Osman Tunku Mohammad Jewa, a Kedah royal family member who was the first armed forces chief appointed from among Malaysians.
The Defence Ministry delegation was led by armed forces chief General Tan Sri Malek Razak Sulaiman.
Also present were ministry's deputy secretary-general (Management) Datin Roszanina Wahab and deputy navy chief vice-admiral Datuk Badarudin Taha.
The launch completes the LMSB2 series at Istanbul Shipyard, following Tunku Laksamana Abdul Jalil (141) and Raja Laut (142).
The Tunku-class vessel, based on the Ada-class corvette design by Turkish defence firm Savunma Teknolojileri Mühendislik (STM), measures 99.56m in length and 14.42m in width, and is designed for multi-dimensional naval operations.
All three vessels will now undergo sensor system integration, installation of warfare systems and weapons, followed by harbour acceptance trials and sea acceptance trials. - NST
