University students on holiday find spy cameras in all bathrooms in a homestay in Selayang, Selangor.
PETALING JAYA: The operator and a foreign worker of a homestay in Selayang, Selangor are under investigation after spy cameras were found in all bathrooms at the premises, The Star reported.
The existence of the spy cameras came to light last week after a hook in one of the bathrooms fell off when a young woman tried to hang her towel on it. She was among a group of university students comprising 23 women and eight men, who were at the homestay.
Upon closer inspection, the student noticed a microchip and camera on the hook and alerted her university mates who found the same in all the other bathrooms.
They lodged a report with Selayang police and a parent of one of the students also brought up the matter with MCA public services and complaints department head Michael Chong.
According to the daily, Chong said a technician confirmed that the device in the bathroom was a spy camera.
“Police are investigating the case and the operator of the homestay and a foreign worker have also been questioned,” Chong told The Star.
He said that it was not the first time that spy cameras had been found in homestays, adding that there have been six previous complaints made to him.
Chong also warned homestay operators to do a sweep of their premises to ensure no spy cameras were installed. -FMT
