Farmers to contest GE14 on PSM ticket to defend land

Two farmers will contest in the 14th general election in their bid to protect farm lands in Perak.
Brothers Chin Kwai Leong and Chin Kwai Heng will contest on the PSM ticket for the Menglembu and Tronoh state seats respectively.
The brothers are also representing Gabungan Selamatkan Petani and Penternak Negeri Perak (The Perak Coalition to Save Farmers and Herders) who in 2015 held a demonstration in front of the menteri besar's office over land matters.
"The will bring the aspirations and struggles of farmers as well as the issue of food security for the people to the Perak legislative assembly," PSM said in a statement on Facebook today.
The brothers face formidable challenge from DAP, which won both seats in 2013 with landslide victories in 2013.
DAP's Lim Pek Har won Menglembu with 16,799 votes while Yong Choo Kiong won Tronoh with 6,191 votes.
A total 90 percent of Menglembu voters are Chinese while the community makes up about 60 percent of Tronoh constituency.
Meanwhile, PSM will also field Mat Noor Ayat, its first ever Orang Asli candidate, to contest the Jelai state seat in Pahang.
Jelai, located in the Cameron Highlands area, has about 30 percent Orang Asli voters while the rest are Malay and Indian.

Its activist Suresh Kumar, who has long served the Cameron Highlands area, will contest for the parliamentary seat.
Cameron Highland was narrowly won by former MIC president G Palanivel with only 462 votes in 2013, against DAP's M Manogaran.
PSM's sole parliamentarian Dr Jeyakumar Devaraj will defend the Sungai Siput parliamenatary he first won in 2008.- Mkini
