The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today arrested the general manager of a Prasarana subsidiary, for allegedly abusing his power and receiving bribes for his personal gain.
In a statement, MACC said the 54-year-old suspect, who was attached to Project Technical Support Cheras Selatan, was picked up along with his 50-year-old wife, when they turned up at the commission's headquarters in Putrajaya, about 6.30pm.
According to a source, the suspect had allegedly received bribes to endorse several projects, including supplying buses, spare parts for buses and repairing buses.
He is believed to have, through several projects under his supervision, taken at least RM500,000 in bribes since 2013 - some of which he channelled into his wife's bank account.
The male suspect had also served as the chief operation officers of Rapid Penang, another subsidiary of Prasarana.
The case will be probed under Section 17 (a) of the MACC Act 2009, where the suspect can be jailed up to 20 years and fined five times the amount of bribery, if convicted.
MACC investigations director Simi Abd Ghani confirmed the arrests and said both suspects will be remanded tomorrow.- Mkini
