PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang successfully underwent a three-hour surgery to replace a leaking heart valve today.
The 69-year-old is now under observation at the Intensive Care Unit of Institut Jantung Negara (IJN), the institute said.
"Doctors are happy that the procedure progressed as anticipated and his vital parameters thus far are stable.
"(Doctors) have advised against Hadi receiving any visitors with the exception of immediate family members," IJN said in a statement.
It said the Marang MP's surgery had been scheduled as he was having "increasing symptoms due to a leaking heart valve".
"This condition had affected his daily activities," it said.
The early morning surgery was performed by a panel of doctors led by IJN CEO and senior cardiothorasic surgeon Dr Mohd Azhari Yakub.
Hadi's health has been a cause for concern following his frequent absence at key events including parliamentary sittings. - Mkini
