State executive council has decided to standardise the spelling of Melaka in all languages in the media.
MELAKA: The Melaka State Executive Council has decided that the spelling for the name of the state be changed from “Malacca” to “Melaka”.
Melaka state secretary Naim Abu Bakar said all newspapers and the media, whether in Bahasa Malaysia, English or any other language, should use the name “Melaka” in writing or when mentioning the state in any of their publications.
“This is intended to standardise the use of the name ‘Melaka’ whether in writing or when mentioning in the media, especially in English,” he said in a statement here yesterday.
He expressed hope that the use of “Melaka” for the state would be communicated to everyone.
He also thanked the media for its cooperation in supporting the usage of the name. -FMT
