Normal for MPs to attend gov't functions, says PAS VP

It is normal for elected representatives to attend government functions in their constituencies even if they are from opposition parties, said PAS vice president Idris Ahmad.
While he does not mention PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, his remarks come after Abdul Hadi attended a breakfast event with fishermen in his constituency of Marang, alongside Agriculture and Agri-based Industries Minister Ahmad Shabery Cheek last week.
"There is nothing strange about (elected representatives attending government events). The person who sees it as strange is someone who is strange and has an illness in his heart.
"Someone like this must pray that Allah cures him of the illness," he said in a Facebook posting.
Abdul Hadi's attendance at the event sparked speculation, as it highlighted close ties between the veteran politician and the Umno minister.

During the event, Shabery spoke of his experience being at sea with Abdul Hadi, whom he described as a true fishermen who left all his worries on land when in the ocean.
Shabery said this was his experience with Abdul Hadi 30 years ago.
Relations between PAS and Umno is closely watched by political observers, as PAS continues to battle perceptions that it will work with Umno in the next general election.
Co-operation between the two parties to table the Syariah Court (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act (Act 355) despite objections by BN parties in April also fueled the speculation.- Mkini
