PAS reps will remain in Selangor, insists Iskandar

PAS representatives will remain in the PKR-led Selangor government even though the resolution to cut ties with PKR was unanimously passed at muktamar last month.
PAS vice-president and Selangor executive council member Iskandar Samad said this is to ensure stability for the people of Selangor.
"There have been many rumours of PAS' position in the Selangor government. In the interest of stability it is hereby declared that PAS remains in the state government which received its mandate in the 13th general election," he said in a statement.
He said the PAS exco members will assist the state in ensuring successful implementation of policies, in line with principles agreed upon when the coalition first came into power in March 2008.
"As such, we give our support and cooperation with the present leadership to ensure the people of Selangor will enjoy stability and continuous welfare," he said.
This comes amid speculation that four PKR representatives are withdrawing support from Menteri Besar Azmin Ali, to back former MB and now Independent assemblyperson Abdul Khalid Ibrahim to return to the post.
It was speculated that Khalid will become MB with the support of PAS assemblypersons, who control 13 seats.
Without PAS, the Azmin administration hangs by the skin of its teeth with 29 seats - the minimum requirement for a simple majority - with 14 DAP assemblypersons, 13 from PKR and two from Parti Amanah Negara.
Although the muktamar is the highest decision making body in PAS, the final decision on whether to sever ties with PKR lies with the syura council, who are to meet on this soon.

Iskandar, meanwhile, may no longer have clout in Selangor at party level despite successfully defending his vice-president post.
Following the election, he was dropped as Selangor PAS commissioner, and replaced with fellow state exco member Sallehen Mukhyi.
Sallehen will hold his first meeting with the Selangor party exco tomorrow night.- Mkini
