Noh Omar says Selangor PAS making unreasonable claim that it intends to fulfil people's mandate given to it in the last general election.
SHAH ALAM: Selangor Umno today slammed Selangor PAS as being dishonourable opportunists for remaining in the Selangor state government even after the Islamist party had chosen to terminate political cooperation with PKR which heads the state administration.
Selangor Umno Liaison Committee chairman Noh Omar said Selangor PAS was making an unreasonable claim that it wanted to fulfil the mandate of the people given to it in the last general election.
The mandate of the people was based on the DAP-PKR-PAS manifesto that had the expelled former Selangor menteri besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim at the helm, he said.
“If PAS says PKR has violated the political cooperation, why must PAS remain in the Selangor government? PAS and PKR are like a divorced husband and wife who still want to live together.
“I am convinced the three (Selangor) PAS executive councillors will not resign. They want to show that they are prepared to set aside the party’s struggle for power,” he told reporters here today.
Noh said he did not rule out the possibility that Selangor PAS’s stand would lead to party hopping by PAS members, state assemblymen or state executive councillors.
“If PAS were to leave the Selangor government, Pakatan Harapan (DAP-PKR-Amanah) will still have the numbers to form a new administration. PAS is now an opposition party in Selangor,” he said.
Noh said the people of Selangor must decide wisely whether they wanted a crisis-riddled political pact or the solidarity and unity of Barisan Nasional.
The Syura Council, the highest decision-making body of PAS, yesterday decided to terminate their political cooperation with PKR, a decision that has had an impact on the position of the three PAS state executive councillors in the Selangor government.
However Selangor PAS commissioner Sallehen Mukhyi said yesterday that the councillors — Iskandar Abdul Samad, Ahmad Yunus Hairi and Zaidy Abdul Talib — would remain in the state government until the dissolution of the state legislative assembly. -FMT
