PETALING JAYA: The autistic son of arrested Turk, Ihsan Aslan has been harming himself ever since his father was taken away by police last week.
Ihsan’s wife, Ainnurul Aisyah Yunos Ali Maricar, said 10-year-old Muhammed Rafael, who is autistic, has been missing his father very much.
Ihsan used to tuck his son into bed every night.
Rafael, Aisyah said, would slap his face repeatedly and bite his arms to cope with his father’s absence.
“It’s been very hard for us, especially for my three young children, since my husband’s arrest. They are very close to their father.
“My eldest has been waiting and looking for his father.
“He doesn’t understand why (his father is not around),” she told a press conference here today.
A Turkish citizen, Ihsan was initially thought to have been abducted after Aisyah failed to contact him on May 2.
The day after, Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar tweeted that Ihsan, along with another Turkish man, Turgay Karaman, had been arrested in connection with activities that threatened national security.
Later, police said they were checking whether the men had links with the Islamic State terror group
There were concerns that he may be deported back to Turkey, the same fate suffered by two other Turkish men last year.
According to a Daily Sabah report, the two men — Alettin Duman and Tamer Tıbık — were arrested by the Malaysian government and extradited to Turkey in October.
The duo have been linked to Turkey’s Gulenist terror group.
Asked about this possibility, Aisyah broke down in tears and begged the Malaysian government not to deport him.
“I’m begging them not to. Our children need him. And I don’t know what will happen to him there. That’s why I don’t want him to be deported.
“He loved both the Malaysian and the Turkish governments. He wouldn’t do anything that can threaten their security.
“And I’m not angry at anyone because I believe this is just a huge misunderstanding. It can happen to anyone. But I do hope he’ll be released soon,” she said.
Aisyah added that her family had yet to have the opportunity to meet her husband, although a Special Branch officer in charge of her husband’s case had promised to look into the matter.
If all goes well, she might get to see her husband, who is detained under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma), earliest by Thursday, she said.
The couple were married in 2003. Their three children are aged 2 to 10. Both are also partners in a wholesale scarf business. -FMT
