8-year-old kicked, punched and slapped by classmates

Victim's mother claims girl was assaulted by nine pupils.

Police advised the victim’s mother to take up the matter with the school and parents concerned as it involves 8-year-old kids.
KUALA LUMPUR: An eight-year-old pupil in a national school was kicked, punched and slapped by her Year Two classmates, claimed her horrified mother.
The mother, who only wanted to be known as Min, said she did not expect this from eight-year-olds as bullying cases usually involved older students.
“I came back from work and my daughter cried and told me that nine of her classmates ganged up and assaulted her,” she told FMT.
The 45-year-old mother claimed that her daughter was kicked hard on her back and knees. She was also slapped multiple times while her classmates taunted her.
“My daughter is in shock over this horrifying incident.”
Min said she went to the Bukit Jalil police station today to lodge a police report but was advised to speak to the teachers first as it involved eight-year-olds and they might get a criminal record if a probe was carried out.
Min said the officers advised her to speak to the school headmaster together with the parents to find a solution.
She said the police officers advised her to lodge a police report if the school failed to take any action on the pupils involved.
Min said she would bring the issue to the headmaster’s attention tomorrow.
Bullying has become a serious problem in national schools. Last year, a Year Six pupil was arrested following the death of his seven-year-old schoolmate in Kapit, Sarawak.
The victim, who was in Year 1, was alleged to have been beaten by the pupil. He was admitted in an unconscious state to Sibu Hospital by the boarding school involved. The child later died. -FMT
