‘THEY SWAGGER TO PARLIAMENT IN SUPER CARS, WITH DRIVERS & BODYGUARDS’: DAP MP WANTS GOVT TO PROBE BN MPs OVER THEIR LUXURIOUS LIFESTYLES – DO THEY PAY TAX ACCORDING TO THEIR WEALTH?

KUALA LUMPUR – Lim Lip Eng (PH-Kepong) has urged the government to investigate Barisan Nasional (BN) MPs whom he said seemed to be leading a luxurious lifestyle.

Lim said this during the Parliament debate session today.

“While the government cannot force the opposition MPs to declare their assets, they can be seen coming to Parliament in luxury cars, with drivers and bodyguards,” said Lim, while taking a swipe at Ismail Mohamed Said (BN-Kuala Krau) who attempted to interject.

Ismail said there was nothing wrong with BN MPs using luxury cars.

Lim, however, told him to “shut up”.

“I am not saying that all the opposition MPs come in luxury cars, but some do.

“I therefore call on the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) to investigate these MPs, and find out whether they are paying taxes according to their wealth.

“If they are not doing so, I demand that strict action be taken against them,” he said.

Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad had recently announced that Cabinet ministers, deputy ministers, political secretaries and government officials must declare their assets to him.

He also said the declaration would be made available to agencies entrusted to fight corruption, including the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
