IRB should probe opposition MPs with luxurious cars - Kepong MP

PARLIAMENT | Pakatan Harapan's Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng has urged the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) to probe whether opposition lawmakers are paying the right amount of income tax as most of them are driving luxurious cars.

"While Harapan government cannot force the opposition MPs to declare their assets, but we can see that they come to Parliament every day in quite luxurious cars, with drivers and escorts.

"Not all of them (with luxurious cars), but most of the lawmakers from the opposition," he said in the debate of royal decree at the Dewan Rakyat today.

"As such, I want the government together with IRB to probe if the amount of tax paid by them equivalent to their wealth. If not, stern actions should be taken."

When contacted, Lim noted that Mercedez Benz F400 and Toyota Vellfire are among the luxurious imported cars he saw being used by these opposition lawmakers.

He said he was mainly referring to Umno lawmakers, while some of them are from Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).

As for MPs from the ruling coalition, Lim said the majority of them only bought locally-assembled four-wheel drive vehicles which are exempted from excise duty.

According to him, Harapan MPs are also entitled to one approved permit (AP), but most of them did not take it. - Mkini
