Abdul Mutalib Ahmad claims those who know how to brown-nose are favoured over those with talent.
PETALING JAYA: A Selangor PKR Youth branch leader yesterday resigned from his posts as accusations of nepotism and cronyism continue to plague the party.
Abdul Mutalib Ahmad has stepped down as the acting Sabak Bernam PKR Youth chief and chairman of the Pakatan Harapan Youth secretariat with immediate effect.
“Dirty tactics and cronyism have become a cancer in the party,” he said in a strongly-worded statement.
Earlier, he lamented that no one from Sabak Bernam PKR Youth was appointed as local councillors, negating the hard work and effort put in by its members who had worked on the ground to campaign in the run-up to the 14th general election.
“It is clear that this party practises cronyism and nepotism when making political decisions.
“Only those with vested interests and brown-nosers are preferred over those with talent.”
Mutalib was, however, quick to state that there were only a few rotten apples in the party, be it in the state or national level.
His resignation comes a day after Selangor PKR Youth secretary Syed Badli Shah Syed Osman stepped down from his post, citing the “death” of democracy in the party.
Syed Badli said there had been unfair political appointments in the state, including in the choice of local councillors.
He went on to accuse some Selangor PKR leaders of practising cronyism and nepotism by making political appointments as a reward.
Yesterday, two PKR branch leaders accused one of the senior aides to the Selangor menteri besar of cronyism and nepotism after the latter had allegedly appointed councillors unilaterally.
They claimed some of the appointees had criminal records and had lied about their academic achievements. - FMT
